Improved sports infrastructure in Dimitrovgrad with the support of the European Union

August 25, 2020

The sports infrastructure in Dimitrovgrad has been improved with the support of the European Union (EU), thus contributing to better conditions for playing sports and organising various sports and cultural events. The EU provided 137,000 Euros through the EU PRO programme for the reconstruction of auxiliary and administrative premises of the sports complex. The works on the building, which now has a recognisable decorative facade, included the replacement of the roof, installation and carpentry, renovation of the sanitary facilities and insulation installed in line with the principles of energy efficiency. New furniture was also procured, while the newly formed Centre for the Development of Youth Sports received computer equipment.

"By realising this project, we are promoting the idea of sports for everyone in the municipality, including both amateur sports clubs and all generations of the population. We now have the conditions to increase the diversity and number of programmes that we can offer to our inhabitants, primarily to young people in the municipality, "said Vladica Dimitrov, Mayor of Municipality of Dimitrovgrad, which participated in the project with 24,500 Euros.

"Improved conditions for playing sports are particularly important for numerous sports clubs and associations in Dimitrovgrad that gather almost 500 members," said Dejan Milev, the manager of this project in which the Sports Association Caribrod and the Public Institution "Sports and Tourist Centre Caribrod" participated as partners.  In addition to improved quality of sports content, the project also contributed to better technical conditions for the functioning of the municipal stadium, and in Dimitrovgrad they hope that, when conditions allow, the number of sports people and visitors to sports events will increase.

Through the activities related to the good governance principles that are implemented in partnership with the Swiss PRO programme, which is supported by the Government of Switzerland, the Rulebook on the use of sports facilities was developed and adopted, while the Plan for Development of Sport in the municipality of Dimitrovgrad is expected to be adopted.
