November 22, 2019

More than 350 children attending kindergarten “Veseli cvetovi” within preschool institution “Naša radost” in Smederevo will have better conditions for stay after reconstruction of the heating system supported by the European Union (EU) through the EU PRO development programme. The works worth a total of 65,000 Euros has also included the installation of fire-fighting equipment and the purchase of new furniture.

“This is one of the largest preschool facilities in the territory of Smederevo and with the replacement of the already worn-out heating system, the working conditions of 28 employees and the stay of children will be improved significantly. We are ready for the winter, and as we now use biomass for heating, we will also contribute to environmental protection,” said project manager Mirjana Ćosić.

In addition to improving the energy efficiency of the facility, the cost of heating and electricity consumption will be reduced by at least 20 percent, and the savings will be used to further improve the services provided by the kindergarten.

In the upcoming period, with the support of the EU, the kindergarten will get new furniture, beds, changing tables, children’s chairs and cabinets, which will further improve the stay of children in this institution.

“The City of Smederevo is actively working to improve the conditions for preschool education, both from its own funds and with the support of donors. In the last couple of years the City has opened new facilities, reconstructed old ones, renovated some of them, all with the aim of improving the conditions for our youngest. It is about a dozen facilities in urban and rural settlements,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasna Avramović.

Through the activities related to the implementation of good governance principles, the use and maintenance of installations as well as the use of the energy savings achieved through energy efficiency will be regulated. These activities are carried out in partnership with the Swiss PRO programme supported by the Government of Switzerland.

The contractor is a group of bidders represented by Biomass Group d.o.o. from Belgrade, which was selected in the public procurement procedure conducted by the City of Smederevo.
